My last annual D-Day debate with Pop.

6 June, 2011.

Me:  Boy howdie, that invasion in Normandy sure was something!

Pop:  Hell son, that was just ONE combat landing.  Your Pappy made THIRTY SIX combat landings with McArthur in the South Pacific.

Well Pop,  THANK YOU isn't enough, but, it's the best I can do.  I sure do miss our spirited discussions on history and politics, but most of all, I miss you.

"Twenty" somethings in 1944.

Thank God for toxic masculinity.

Remembering my Great Uncle Raymond Myers.

During the early morning hours of 6 June, 1944, Raymond parachuted into Normandy, France with his Band of Brothers in the 101st Airborne Division.

Erich Hamann (1934 - 2019)

Remembering a good man, a good friend and Hometown neighbor on his birthday.
In my youth, I was blessed to participate in conversations with Mr. Hamann regarding his youth in Nazi Germany. He spoke of the mandated membership in the Hitler Youth. He spoke of the mandated "look, listen AND report" to authorities. He spoke of all of those in authority who were just following orders.

It saddens me that our youth of today do not have the benefit of listening to his experiences.
